Catherine Van Rompaey

After a long career in national accounts at Statistics Canada, Catherine joined the World Bank’s Development Data Group as the Principal Economist and Team Lead for Economic Statistics. In this role,  she oversees economic statistics and related technical assistance and is a member of the Inter-secretariat Working Group on National Accounts (ISWGNA), playing a key role in the SNA research agenda. In her former position as Director of Statistics Canada’s National Economic Accounts Division, she oversaw a wide range of macroeconomic statistics programs including quarterly gross domestic product and institutional sector accounts, labour productivity, capital stock, satellite accounts and special studies.  With over 25 years in the national accounts field, her experience also includes industry accounts and supply and use tables, along with household surveys on income, consumption and wealth.  Catherine has been an active participant in IARIW conferences since 1998, contributing papers on topics such as pensions and wealth, SNA implementation and distributions of household economic accounts.
