Update on IARIW Activities from the Executive Director: March 31, 2021

March 31, 2021

Subject: 36th IARIW General Conference

We wish to inform you that the IARIW Council has decided the 36th IARIW General Conference planned as an in-person conference August 16-20 in Oslo, Norway will now be a virtual event. The continued uncertainty over restrictions on travel and gatherings in the summer related to the pandemic made this decision necessary.

The conference paper sessions will now be held over four days from Monday, August 23 to Thursday, August 26. There will be two time slots of two hours duration per day featuring both plenary and concurrent sessions. The detailed schedule is found below. The members meeting will be held on Friday, August 27. A pre-conference training session in national accounts will be held August 16-19.

The standard protocols for IARIW General Conferences will be observed, including 30 minutes allocated for each paper, discussant both presenting and discussing the paper, and receipt of paper required by July 31, 2021 for posting on the IARIW website.

The current program is posted at https://iariw.org/iariw-36th-general-conference-1/ Because sessions will now have four papers, not three or six, some program reorganization will be needed. Paper givers have been informed that they need to inform the secretariat on the status of their paper by April 20. A revised program will be posted around the end of April.

Statistics Norway, the host for the conference, will handle conference registration. The registration portal will be up later this spring, hopefully as soon as possible, and by end May at the latest. Statistics Norway is engaging a professional digital conference organizer to develop the platform for the conference. The membership will be informed when the registration portal is open

Other News:

The IARIW Council has also approved the postponement of the IARIW-ESCoE conference on intangible capital because of the pandemic from June 23-25, 2021 to November 11-12, 2021, still in London. Unlike the General Conference, this conference will remain an in-person event. The preliminary program for the conference is found at https://iariw.org/Program-IARIW-ESCoE-2021/

Individual members who have not paid their dues for 2021 are reminded to do so as soon as possible. Payment can be made by credit card at http://old.iariw.org/payment.php

If you have any questions related to any aspect of the conferences, please contact me.
