Dean Jolliffe

Dean Jolliffe, World Bank

Dean Jolliffe is a Research Manager and Lead Economist in the Development Research Group of the World Bank. He also holds appointments as an adjunct professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, a research fellow with the Institute for the Study of Labor and as a fellow of the Global Labor Organization. Previously at the World Bank, he co-directed the 2021 World Development Report on Data for Better Lives, worked with the Living Standards Measurement Study (LSMS), the Poverty and Inequality Platform (PIP), and South Asia poverty teams. Prior to the World Bank, he was a research economist with the Economic Research Service (ERS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, an assistant professor at Charles University Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education (CERGE) in Prague, an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Public Policy Institute, and a postdoctoral fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute. Dean’s research covers topics related to poverty, inequality, food security, education, health, and survey methods. He has co-organized three special IARIW conferences (2019 in DC, 2022 in Tanzania, 2025 in Vietnam) and co-edited two special issues of the Review of Income and Wealth (one currently underway), on topics related to income, wealth, poverty and data. He received his PhD in Economics from Princeton University.
