Instructions for Submitting Payments Online

The International Association for Research in Income and Wealth uses an online payment system supported by PayPal. However, it is by no means necessary for members to have a PayPal account in order to use the online payment system. All that is required is a credit card issued by Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express.

To begin, click the button above that corresponds to the number of years for which you would like to make payment in order to be directed to the payment system. In a new window, you will see the PayPal log in page with the option to pay by credit card. If you do not have a PayPal account and will be paying by credit card, simply click the button below that says “Pay with a Credit or Visa Debit card”. (If you do have a PayPal account and would like to use it to pay your fees, provide your login details and click the “Log In”.

The next screen asks you for your credit card information and address. After choosing your credit card type and country from the drop-down lists, be sure to wait a few seconds for the screen to refresh. In addition to your credit card type and number, you will also be required to provide the three-digit security number found on the back of your credit card. “Billing Address” refers to the address that your credit card bills are sent to, and is required for payment verification. The email address that you provide will be used to send you a receipt once your payment has been submitted. You will also be asked to type a series of five letters and numbers as a security measure before you can continue. Finally, you can use the “Comments” field at the bottom of the page to provide any comments that you wish. If the name of the member whose fees you are paying does not match the name on your credit card, it is important to specify in the “Comments” field whose account the payment should be credited to. Do not include any hyphens or spaces in either your credit card number or phone number. Also, it is not necessary to include your country code in your phone number. Once all of your information has been entered, click the “Continue Checkout” button at the bottom right.

The next screen allows you to verify all your details and make changes if you wish. Note that, by default, PayPal converts the $75 U.S. fee into the currency of your credit card before charging your card. If you wish to change this, and have the amount in U.S. dollars charged directly to your card and converted to your home currency by your credit card company, follow the “Conversion options” link under the amount and exchange rate information.

Once you have verified all the details, simply click the “Pay” button at the bottom right. Your credit card will not be charged and your payment will not be made until you click this button and your payment has been verified. When your payment has been verified you will be redirected to a screen with a transaction identification number, at which point a receipt will also be sent to the email address that you provided. Click the “Return to Merchant” button at the bottom right to return to the IARIW website. Once you have paid your membership fee you may wish to check your entry in the member directory and submit changes if necessary using the membership application and information update form.

Note that, unfortunately, the payment system is not currently able to receive payments from credit cards registered in a small number of countries. If your country does not appear in the selection list in the billing information section of the payment screen, you will have to pay by cheque, international money order or wire transfer, as discussed on the application and fee information page.
