Olga Cantó, University of Alcala

Olga Cantó is Professor of Economics at the Universidad de Alcalá (Madrid, Spain), where she coordinates a Master program in Applied Economic Analysis focused on tools for public policy evaluation. She holds a PhD in Economics from the European University Institute and has previously worked as a lecturer at the Universidade de Vigo and as Senior Researcher at the Instituto de Estudios Fiscales (Spanish Institute for Fiscal Studies). Her research focuses on the theory and measurement of well-being, the static and dynamic analysis of income and wealth distribution, inequality and poverty, the intergenerational transmission of opportunities, and the distributional effects of fiscal and social policies. She is a founding member of EQUALITAS, a leading Spanish research network on inequality and poverty; coordinator of WEIPO (Well-being, inequality, Poverty and public pOlicy) at her university and external researcher at ECOSOT at the Universidade de Vigo. Her research has been published in leading international journals, including Review of Income and Wealth, Journal of Economic Inequality, Social Science & Medicine, Economic Systems, Review of Economics of the Household, The Manchester School, and Feminist Economics, among others. She has also authored numerous reports and book chapters and contributed as an academic expert to the Spanish White Book for Tax Reform published in 2022. Since 2021, she has served as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Applied Economics Analysis. She regularly participates in conferences organized by the International Association for Research in Income and Wealth (IARIW) and the Society for the Study of Economic Inequality (ECINEQ), and she serves on the Board of the European Network for Social Policy Analysis (ESPANET). Since 2021 she is a member of the Counselling Committee of the Spanish Independent Fiscal Responsibility Authority (Autoridad Independiente de Responsabilidad Fiscal, AIReF). In 2024 she was appointed to the Counselling Committee on Economic Affairs of the Spanish Ministry of Economy and, most recently, to the Consultative Council of the International Panel on Inequality (IPI), participating in its inaugural Council meeting in Johannesburg in April 2026.
