Stephan Klasen

Stephan Klasen is Professor of Development Economics at the University of Göttingen in Germany. He holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University. His research focuses on issues of measurement, determinants, and policy implications of poverty and inequality in developing countries. He has also done policy work for international organizations including UNDP, the World Bank, OECD, African Development Bank as well as developing country governments and aid agencies. He has been a member of IARIW since 1998, and a regular participant and presenter at IARIW conferences, and was Co-Managing Editor of the Review of Income and Wealth from 2004-2012. He was also chair of the scientific committee for the IARIW special conference in South Africa in 2011, and editor for the resulting special issue.
