Update on IARIW Activities from the Executive Director January 8, 2021

January 8, 2020

Dear IARIW Member,

This email updates members on the three IARIW conferences planned for 2021, the special conference on intangible capital in London in late June, the General Conference in Oslo in August, and the special conference on income and wealth in Africa in Tanzania in October.

At this time, it is hoped that the conferences can take place in-person, with arrangements for virtual participation for those unable to attend. The uncertainly over the pace of COVID vaccination and the timing of the resumption of international travel without quarantine restrictions means that final decisions on whether the conference will go ahead as in-person events, become totally virtual conferences, or are postponed, cannot be made at this time. The IARIW and local conference organizers are monitoring the situation closely and will inform the membership regarding each conference when a final decision is made.

Call for Papers for IARIW-TNBS Conference on Income, Wealth and Well-being in Africa, Arusha, Tanzania

The International Association for Research in Income and Wealth (IARIW), in partnership with the Tanzania National Bureau of Statistics (TNBS), is hosting a conference on the measurement of income, wealth and well-being in Africa, scheduled for October 7-9, 2021, in Arusha, Tanzania. The main aim of the conference is to advance our understanding on issues related to measuring national accounts, prices, productivity, income and wealth distribution, poverty, and economic well-being in the countries of Africa through an examination of past experiences related to the measurement of trends in these variables and the identification of future measurement challenges. Please see the call for papers for more information.

Persons interested in presenting a paper at the conference are invited to submit a proposal by February 28, 2021. Selected papers from the conference will be published in a supplementary issue of the Review of Income and Wealth.
